Agiltron, who offers industry leading optical communication and sensing solutions, developed a new class of high-efficiency and lightweight broadband inverted metamorphic multi-junction solar cells for uninterrupted flight missions of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The approach is closely coupled with Agiltron’s extensive experience in high-transmittance broadband and wide-angle anti-reflective microstructures, pushing the cell’s conversion efficiency performance well beyond the current state-of-the-art. Although designed and customized for air vehicles in conditions that are different from terrestrial applications, they still provide portable and reliable renewable energy for dismounted soldiers, reducing their need for carrying extra batteries.
