MZA produces a deformable mirror (DM) capable of changing its shape to cancel out optical aberrations, similar to how noise-cancelling headphones work, to enable better light propagation through the atmosphere to enable improved laser weapons range, kill time and imaging. MZA has provided beam control expertise for High Energy Laser Weapon Systems (HELWS) and surveillance systems since 1991. All HELWS and long-range surveillance need more compact, durable, and robust DMs for maximizing their effectiveness. Phase I development and manufacturing of over 55 operational DMs over the last decade have verified the efficacy of this technology. The ultimate goal is to integrate and transition this technology into government and prime contractor HELWS and ISR systems for reducing overall costs, improving SWaP and improving system efficacy.
